Proposed RV Park, Nine Hole Golf Course Near Eckville Awaits Second Reading

Lacombe County Council (Alberta, Canada) unanimously approved the first reading of a proposed nine-hole golf course and RV park on the former site of the Last Hill Golf Course near Eckville on Thursday.

As per a report, a public hearing is also scheduled for April 14. If it passes the second reading, the county council and developers will meet to negotiate an agreement for development before the third reading.

Alberta Views RV and Golf Resort landowners Bill and Carla MacLean have applied to Lacombe County to rezone the 153-acre property located just north of Eckville from agricultural to a recreation district, which permits RVs.

The development will comprise a nine-hole golf course, 100 seasonal recreational campsites, which can be increased to 160 spots in the second phase, washrooms, a parking lot, and a huge fenced storage area. A small pool, a playground, pickleball courts, and a path leading to an aquatic feature are also being planned for the site.

The MacLeans first made an application in Lacombe County to change the property’s zoning in 2017. It was approved on the first reading, and further action was taken, and the application lapsed, said county senior planner Cajun Paradis.

In the past, Bill MacLean said they were looking into a 12-hole golf course.

Following the revival of the MacLeans project, a public open house was held on February 15, attended by seven individuals and county council members.

“The feedback at the open house was entirely positive,” said Paradis in a report to the council. “There were no opposing questions or views presented.”

The resort will also feature 260 seasonal RV spaces available following a few years of expansion.
